Saturday, 22 October 1904

Mrs. Catherine Spuhler, wife of Frederick Spuhler, died at 2:15 on Friday 
morning of stomach trouble, at her home, 415 Crawford avenue. Deceased lady was 
born in Germany fifty-seven years ago, had lived in Altoona twenty-one years, 
and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church. Her husband and seven children 
survive her: Louise, Frederick, Mary, Bertha, Lizzie, Ida and Nicholas, all at 
home. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Catherine Rechtenwald, of 
Altoona. The funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, in 
St. Mary's church and interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery.

Additional Comments:
There are conflicting dates of Catherine's birth. The inscription on her 
tombstone indicates 1862. Her 1900 Census record indicates 1859 and Stevens 
Mortuary records indicate she was was 48 when she died in October of 1904 which 
would give her a birth year of 1856. Her age of 57 listed in her obituary is in 
error.
