Spuhler of 222-2nd Avenue died at 5:15 a.m. yesterday, Nov. 12, 1972, in VA Hospital after an extended illness. He had retired in July 1965 from the city water department with 45 years' service Mr. Spuhler was born July 21, 1899, in Altoona, a son of Frederick and Catherine (Ridenwald) Spuhler, and married Eleanora C. Claybaugh. Surviving are his wife, a son, Frank E. of Massillon, Ohio; two grandchildren, five sisters, Miss Louise, Mrs. Elizabeth Stevens, Mrs. Mary Griffith and Mrs. Ida Kelley of Altoona, and Sister Mary Cyril of Fond du Lac, Wis. Mr. Spuhler was a member of the Second Avenue United Methodist Church, The A. B. Corbin Bible Class, superintendent of the Sunday School for 38 years and former youth worker in the Sunday School, president of the trustee board and scoutmaster. A veteran of World War I, serving in the Army, he was past commander of the American Legion and Chaplain of World War I veterans. In 1962 the Kiwanis Club awarded him the title of Public Service Man-of-the Year. Friends will be received in the Myers Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
