All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ Altoona Mirror 18 May 1938 David Bailor Stahl, a retired engineer of the Pennsylvania railroad, died at 9:15 o'clock this morning at his home, 919 Sixth Avenue. He had been ill for the past two months suffering from a complication of diseases. Mr. Stahl was born on Jan. 21, 1867, in Perry county, a son of Reuben and Nancy (Powell) Stahl. He entered the railroad service as a laborer on May 25, 1885, serving the company for forty-five years and eleven months, retiring in 1932, after thirty-two years as an engineer. He was twice married, nine daughters and one son blessing the first union. His first wife was Clara Berkehiser. Surviving to this union are Clyde Stahl of Bedford, Mrs. Esther Burley of Altoona, Mrs. Clyde Jenkins and Mrs. Russell Bartlebaugh, both of Juniata, Mrs. Harry Kester of Youngstown, O., Mrs. R.E. McCartney and Mrs. Harry Graham, both of Juniata, and Mrs. Sherman Paul of Altoona. His second wife, Mrs. Laura Wertz Stahl, survives along with two step-children, Mrs. Jacob H. Wertz of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Elmer Cramer, at home. A brother William E. Stahl of Juniata, and twenty- two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Stahl was a member of the Wesley Memorial Methodist church, the B. of L.F. and E. and the Juniata P.O.S. of A. lodge The body may be viewed at the Mauk & Yates funeral home after 4 o'clock Thursday.
