All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ RESTAURATEUR IS CALLED BY DEATH Anton Steurer, aged 73, of 1808 Fourth avenue, for many years proprietor of a meat market in the city and then co-proprietor of the Dutch kitchen, died at 8.35 o'clock this morning of a heart attack at the Altoona hospital where he had been a patient since June 16. He was born in Hohenzollern, Germany, on June 9, 1869, but came to this country and Altoona fifty-five years ago. For a time he was employed as a boiler fireman in the Altoona railroad. shops and then established a meat market which he conducted for thirty-four years. Retiring from the meat business, he and a son-in-law, Charles W. Filer, established the Dutch Kitchen. His wife, Mrs. Mary (Albrecht) Steuer, died twenty-two years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles W. Filer and Mrs. Lester C. Hurley; two grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Mary DeTemple of Altoona and Mrs. Caroline Huebschlie, in Germany. Mr. Steurer was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the Altoona lodge of Elks and the Frohsinn society. Friends will be received at the N. A. Stevens mortuary after 7 o'clock this evening. Altoona Mirror, June 20, 1942 STEUER - Funeral services for Anton Steurer, of 1808 Fourth avenue, will be held with solemn requiem mass at St. Mary's Catholic church, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock.
