After an affliction of almost three years, from dropsy, during which he was a patient sufferer, never murmuring at his lot, Thomas Stevens died at 9 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. C. Weight, at Charlottesville, near Tipton. The funeral services were conducted at the Tipton Methodist church, by Rev. Samuel Wilson, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment, with the honors of war, at Bellwood cemetery. The deceased was born September 17, 1825. His age at death was 71 years, 4 months and 14 days. Mr. Stevens was twice married, his first wife, formerly Mary Mulhollen, passing away in 1865. His second wife, formerly Barbara Eve Cramer, died in 1883. Surviving him are the following children: Mrs. Mary Simpson, Mrs. Tamer Miller, Mrs. Amanda Houser, Mrs. Nannie Mulhollen, of Altoona; Mrs. Elizabeth Kuhn, of McKeesport; Mrs. Myrtle V. Wolfgang, in Tyrone; Mrs. E. Florence Weight and Walter T. Stevens, of Charlottesville. One brother, Joshua Stevens, of Illinois, also survives him. Mr. Stevens served during the Civil War in the artillery arm and made a good record as a soldier. He was a member of the Sanford D. Beyer Post 426, Grand Army of the Republic, of Bellwood. A consistent Christian, he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Tipton. Among all who knew him he was highly respected as a loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a useful citizen, who will be missed in the community in which he so long made his home.
