Stever, age 81, of 252 Meade Street, Tyrone died Friday, November 9, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tyrone Hospital. He was born April 23, 1926 in Huntingdon, the son of Homer F. and Beulah Ward Stever and in 1947 he was married to Helen Shimp who survives. Also surviving are two sons: William L. (Cora) Stever of Altoona and Robert L. Stever of Tyrone and five grandchildren: William, Robert, Kenneth, Kevin and James R. Also surviving are three brothers and one sister: Thomas W. of Vero Beach, FL, George R. (Evelyn) of Tyrone, James D. (Frances) of Pleasant Gap and Sara S. Markel of Tyrone. A brother, Dr. Richard Stever, preceded him in death July 18, 1995. Mr. Stever was a graduate of Tyrone High School class of 1945. He retired May 20, 1990 as a yard conductor after 39 years service with the PRR, Penn Central and Conrail. He served as a Seaman First Class with the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the underwater demolition team with the Navy Seals in the Bay of Japan. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a member of the United Transportation Workers Union and Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion. Private funeral service for William C. Stever will be conducted by Reverend Dennis R. Gable at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Bowman Cemetery, Mapleton Depot. Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc.
