To-day will witness the final scene of the life of one who was known and esteemed by many of the people of our city, the funeral of John W. Stewart, late of Pittsburgh. Mr. Stewart was born in this county, where he lived with his parents until his father, Captain Samuel Stewart, was killed in the war, when, with his brothers, he was sent to the soldiers' orphan school at Andersonburg, Perry county, graduating at the age of 16, being known as one of the "sixteeners." Since that time he has filled various positions of trust in this city and Pittsburgh, holding at the time of his death a responsible position with Carnegie, Phipps & Co. Twelve years ago he married Elizabeth, the second eldest daughter of Mr. Jacob Lusch, of this city, who, with a little daughter Nellie, live to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. Mr. Stewart at the time of his death was in his 33d year, just the prime of life. He had, however, during his school days identified himself with the Presbyterian church, realizing thus early in life the importance of starting aright. He was at one time a member of camp No. 12, Sons of Veterans, and that organization will honor his memory by furnishing a guard of honor, who will act as pall bearers. The body will be brought to this city on day express to-day, and as religious services were held at his home yesterday, it will be taken to Fairview cemetery for interment immediately on arrival of the train.
