STIFFLER EXPIRES AT CANOE CREEK Abraham Lincoln Stiffler, member of an early pioneer family in Blair county, died at his home at Canoe Creek Saturday night at 11.55 o'clock. Death was attributed to a complication of ailments incident to advanced age. He was a son of Joseph and Mary (Leighty) Stiffler and was born on a farm in the Loop, east of Hollidaysburg, on Sept. 24, 1860. Later his father acquired a farm at Canoe Creek and the family moved there and Mr. Stiffler had resided in that community ever since. Early in life Mr. Stiffler was engaged in farming on the home farm. Later he went into the store business and served as postmaster at Canoe Creek for some years, then entered the employ of the state highway department as caretaker on the highway from Canoe Creek to Williamsburg, serving in that capacity for about fifteen years, until his retirement. He was united in marriage with Miss Emma Burger of Canoe Creek on March 14, 1888. She preceded him in death. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive, Ira M. Stiffler of Worthington, Pa., Mrs. Mary C. Smith of Pitcairn and Lewis, at whose home he died, and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister also survive, George R. Stiffler of Geeseytown and Mrs. Sarah Metzker of Martinsburg. Mr. Stiffler was a member of the Canoe Creek United Brethren church and was always active in the work of the church and in community affairs. He was a member of the Scotch Valley grange.
