Stiffler died yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at his home at Canan Station, after an illness that extended over a period of one week. He was in poor health for the past year, suffering from a complication of diseases but was able to be about until a week ago. He was born in Newry on Feb. 4, 1857, the son of James M. Stiffler, former Blair county sheriff, and Elizabeth Weaver, both deceased. He was one of the leading farmers in the county and retired some time ago. He served for eighteen years as member of the Allegheny township board of education. He was married on June 29, 1881, to Miss Mary C. Delozier, who survives with the following children: W. G., of Roselawn; Corporal Ross C. Stiffler, in the postal service in France; Joseph O., at Camp J. E. Johnston, Fla.; Lee, Lois, Winifred and Mary, all at home. Also by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Fred Maxfield, of Omaha, Neb.; George W., of Eldorado; Mrs. Howard Good and Mrs. Albert Shew, both of Eldorado. He was a member of the Hollidaysburg Lutheran church. The interment will be made in Carson Valley cemetery. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Saturday Morning, October 19, 1918
