Stiffler, Aged 91, Dies At Geeseytown George Raymond Stiffler, well known resident of Geeseytown, former school teacher and Blair county official, died at his home yesterday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock. He observed his 91st birthday June 1. Born in West Loop, Frankstown township, June 1, 1857, Mr. Stiffler was the son of Joseph and Mary (Leighty) Stiffler. He was married June 9, 1887, to Alice Hall of Howard, Pa., at the bride's home. In 1862 he moved to Canoe Creek where he spent more than 35 years on his father's farm before moving to Geeseytown in 1897. Mr. Stiffler attended the Canoe Creek and Scotch valley schools for 10 terms, one session at Juniata College institute in 1874, the Altoona Business college in 1880 and one term at Plum Creek Normal school in 1876. He began his teaching career of 26 terms in 1874. During the summer he usually worked on the farm and also engaged in the painting and paper hanging business. From 1910 to 1920 Mr. Stiffler served as census enumerator for Frankstown township and in Tyrone township from 1930 to 1935. He also was employed by the federal census bureau from 1910 to 1912. He was elected county auditor three successive terms, serving from 1885 to 1895. He was a member of the Scotch Valley grange and a 46-year silver star member of that organization. Mr. Stiffler worked two years in the recorder's office as transcribing clerk and operated a grocery store in Hollidaysburg from 1881 to 1883. He also served Frankstown township at various times as clerk, auditor, school director, justice of the peace, inspector of elections and Republican county committeeman. He served as an agent for the Blair County Fire Insurance company during its existence of 30 years. He had been a member of the Geeseytown Fire company since its organization and served five years as a member of company C, 5th regiment, Pennsylvania National guard. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Olive Stiffler, at home. Another daughter died in infancy. Mr. Stiffler was a member of the Judson Bible class of Hollidaysburg since 1878 and a member of the Hollidaysburg Brethren church. Friends will be received at the home after 7 o'clock this evening and until 10 o'clock Thursday morning when the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state until time for services.
