Stiffler, native of Bedford County, died at his home at Duncansville, Monday evening, February 9, at 7:15 o'clock, of a complication of diseases after a lengthy illness. Mr. Stiffler was in his 87th year. He was born near New Enterprise, Bedford County, on May 20, 1838 and was the only son of Peter and Elizabeth Smith Stiffler, both long deceased. Only one member of his family survives beside his aged wife, a sister, Mrs. Samuel Stultz of Topeka, Kansas. On September 8, 1859, he was united in marriage with Miss Jane E. McConnell of Greenfield Township, who survives. The deceased resided with his parents in Bedford County until nine years of age when they became residents of Blair County in which county he resided until the time of his death. He was a respected citizen, law abiding and absolutely honest and was a civil war veteran. He was a member of the Duncansville Lutheran Church for many years and also a member of Stephen C. Potts Post #62 GAR of Altoona. The funeral service was held yesterday (Thursday) morning at l0 o'clock at the Duncansville Lutheran Church conducted by his pastor, Reverend Isaac Krider. Interment was made in the Carson Valley Cemetery. Bedford Gazette, February 13, 1925
