He was born on March 15, 1858, in the city, a son of Samuel and Catherine (Sneath) Stiffler. Mr. Stiffler retired in 1925 from the brass foundry after fifty-one years' service. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma E. (Thompson) Stiffler; one daughter and two sons, Carrie, at home, J. Howard of Johnstown and Charles E. of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Emma Danley of the city, one half brother and one half-sister, James Mufty of the city and Miss Ella Mufty of Harrisburg. A daughter, Mrs. H. S. Kelly, died several years ago. Mr. Stiffler was of the Methodist faith, a member of the I.O.O.F., and a director of the Logan Building & Loan association for many years. Friends are being received at the home until 11 o'clock Tuesday morning after which the body may be viewed at the Laughlin funeral home. Altoona Mirror, October 9, 1939
