All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ DEATH SUMMONS LEVI STIFFLER Former Well Known Hotel Man Was Invalid For Many Years Levi Stiffler, a resident of Hollidaysburg and former proprietor of the Hotel Portage at Duncansville, and the Kellerman House at Gaysport, died at the Mercy hospital, Altoona, of a complication of diseases at 10:10 o'clock yesterday morning. Deceased was an invalid for some years and retired from the hotel business some years ago. He was able to go about until last Saturday when he was taken seriously ill at his home, suffering an attack at 3 o'clock in the morning. His condition was alarming for the past several days and at 6 o'clock on Monday evening, he was removed to the hospital. Levi Stiffler was a native of Allegheny township, Blair county, and was born Christmas day, 1858, spending his entire life in the state, with all but a few years in this county. The family resided for a short time in Columbia county and returned to Blair, taking the management of the Hotel Portage and later the Kellerman House. Surviving are the widow and six children as follows: Logan Stiffler, Mrs. Mildred Wilt and Mrs. Saloma Edmiston, all of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Olga M. Wilt of St. Michaels, Oakley Stiffler of Hollidaysburg and Julius Stiffler at home. Also by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Amanda Smith of Gallitzin, Mrs. Della Seese of Altoona, Peter Stiffler of Altoona, Joseph Stiffler of Mahaffey and Adam Stiffler of Prospect, O. The funeral will be held from the family home in charge of Funeral Director Thomas B. McFarland on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Carson Valley cemetery.
