ANNA STITZEL [photo] Long Illness is Fatal to Civic Leader Mrs. Anna C. Stitzel, 85, of 3508 Baker boulevard, widow of Dr. Jonas W. Stitzel, for many years a prominent Hollidaysburg physician, died at 11.15 o'clock last night in the Fitzgerald nursing home after having been in failing health for several years. She was born in McEwensville, Northumberland county, Jan. 14, 1868, a daughter of Samuel and Anna (Karchner) Derr, and was united in marriage with Dr. Stitzel here Sept. 28, 1892, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in 1942. Dr. Stitzel died Nov. 13, 1946. Dr. and Mrs. Stitzel had resided in Hollidaysburg from 1897, earlier residing in Houtzdale. Mrs. Stitzel was an active member of the Zion Lutheran church, the Excelsior Missionary society, a former president of the W.C.T.U. chapter, the Hollidaysburg Women's club, Adam Holliday chapter of the D.A.R., and a member of the board of directors of the Hollidaysburg Y.M.-Y.W.C.A. Surviving are one son, Dr. Elwood W. Stitzel of the city, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Ann Alloway of Lawrenceville, N.J., and Elwood, jr., of San Antonio, Tex. Friends may call at the Lafferty funeral home from 7 o'clock this evening until 10 o'clock Thursday morning and thereafter at the Zion Lutheran church, Hollidaysburg.
