Stitzell, an old and highly respected citizen of Altoona, died at his residence, No. 806, Green avenue at 5.20 Wednesday morning last, aged 59 years, 8 months and 8 days. Mr. Stitzell had been confined to his home on account of illness for some days, but his friends in general were not aware of that fact, and the announcement of his death will surprise and shock them. In early life he learned the trade of cabinet making, but afterward became a machinist and general workman. Indeed he is supposed to have been the oldest machinist in the railroad shops of this city. Since 1872 he had been employed in the brass department of the lathe shop, and was a master workman. His mechanical proficiency was the means of bringing him many extra jobs outside of his working hours in the shop, such as repairing clocks, watches, etc. He was a genial old gentleman and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who worked with him or knew him. He leaves a family of several grown up children. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, March 1, 1883, page 3
