At his home, 308 Second avenue, Mr. Michael Stover died Thursday after an illness which lasted for several months, and which at times caused him much suffering. The deceased was almost 42 years of age and was born at Elizabeth Furnace. For over a score of years he had been a resident of Altoona. Entering the employ of the railroad company as a brakeman, he was so unfortunate as to lose an arm. He was then appointed watchman, and for many years was foreman of those in the car shops. Then living in the Seventh ward he was elected to common council, serving the city and his constituents with ability. Twenty years ago he was married to Miss Ella Kay West, who survives him, as do these children, all residing at home: Ellis, Henry, Margaret, Mary, Laura, Fred and Ella. He also leaves two brothers - Elmer and Sanford, of Pittsburg, and these sisters: Mrs. Laura McCartner [sic], Mrs. Margaret McCartney, Mrs. Jane McClelland, Mrs. R. Miller, all of Logan township, and Mrs. Annie Sickles, of Wilmore. He was a member of the Pennsylvania railroad company's relief fund, of Verandah lodge No. 532, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and of the Royal Arcanum. Mr. Stover was a sincere Christian and a member of the Fourth Lutheran church. In all his churchly duties, as in others, he was faithful. A good citizen, a loving husband and father, he has gone to his reward. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, February 16, 1899
