ELIZABETH STUART Passed Away at the Roaring Spring Hospital on Monday Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Stuart, wife of Howard Malcolm Stuart, died on Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Roaring Spring hospital, after a long illness from cancer of the liver. Mrs. Stuart had been a patient sufferer from this disease for a year past and in the hope of being benefited was taken to the hospital Sunday, August 31. Her case however, was beyond aid of medical science and she grew weaker until she fell peacefully asleep at the above mentioned time. Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Stuart was a daughter of the late Alexander and Sarah McDonald, old pioneer settlers of upper Bald Eagle valley. She was born at Martha Furnace, August 12, 1859, and resided in that community all her life with the exception of the past eight years when she moved to Tyrone and has been one of our esteemed residents up until she passed away. She was united in marriage thirty-seven years ago to Howard Malcolm Stuart. Mrs. Stuart was a most excellent woman in every sense of the word. She enjoyed the esteem and friendship of all her neighbors in the community in which she lived. Having joined the Baptist church at Martha when only a girl of seventeen, she lived her life in conformity to the teachings of that faith. When in health she enjoyed assisting in all the work that was for the upbuilding of Christ's kingdom. After coming to Tyrone she had her membership transferred to the local church. She was also an active worker in the Ladies Aid society and the Merry Workers organization, two branches of the church that do most effective work. Surviving to mourn her death is her devoted husband and the following children: Mrs. J. R. Williams, of Julian; Alda Stuart, of Altoona; Mrs. Clair Devine, of Johnstown; Bardens Stuart, of Chester; John Wesley, Harry, Gilbert and Edith all at home. One daughter, Alice, preceded her to the grave. She also leaves the following brothers and sister: Alexander McDonald, of Blairsville; Mary McDonald, of Ohio; Joseph, Abner, Sherman, Mrs. George Murray, of Martha, and Mrs. Nora Hall, of Alport. Short funeral services were held at the home, 1462 Logan avenue, Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. in charge of Rev. H. B. Garner, D.D., of the Baptist church. On Wednesday morning the body was taken to Martha, Centre county, where services were held in the Baptist Church at that place, conducted by Rev. H. B. Garner. Interment will be made at Martha.
