Stultz, 73, retired Juniata shop machinist of 2008 Fourth avenue, in Mercy hospital at 1.35 o'clock this morning. Also injured in the accident and a patient in the Altoona V.A. hospital is Paul J. Witherow, 33, of 2037 Broad avenue, driver of the car in which Mr. Stultz was a passenger. Mr. Witherow suffered a fracture of the left knee cap and possible chest injuries which are scheduled for X-ray examination. The other car involved in the accident was driven by Paul Silvis of Marienville. A woman in the Silvis car was injured but so far as is known did not require hospitalization. Both Altoona men were admitted to the Brookville hospital from where Mr. Witherow was removed to the V.A. hospital on Sunday and Mr. Stultz to Mercy hospital on Monday afternoon, by ambulance. Mr. Stultz was accompanying Mr. Witherow on a business trip to Brookville when the accident occurred on a narrow road between Marionville and their destination. Rounding a curve they came upon the Silvis car moving in the wrong traffic lane and the machines collided head on despite Mr. Witherow's attempts to get off the road. Both cars were demolished in the collision. Mr. Witherow is local distributor for the Filter Queen Sweeper. Mr. Stultz suffered severe head injuries and a fracture of the collarbone. He failed to respond to treatment at the hospital but did speak briefly with Mr. Witherow before the latter's departure from the hospital on Sunday. His condition at Mercy hospital had been regarded as critical from the time of his admission. Mr. Stultz was born at Puzzletown on Nov. 6, 1883, a son of Michael and Ellen (Shaw) Stultz and entered the service of the railroad company as a young man. He retired from the Juniata shops in 1942. He was twice married, his first wife, the former Grace E. Bowser, died in April 1933, and on Dec. **, 1934, he married Mrs. Elizabeth Bohn. Surviving are his wife, a son born to the first marriage, Walter of Detroit, Mich., two step-daughters, Miss Ruth M., at home, and Mrs. Eleanor E. Figard of St. Petersburg, Fla., seven grandchildren, one sister and one brother, Mrs. Anna Manlove of Pasadena, Calif., and Oliver R., of Altoona. Mr. Stultz was a member of Christ Evangelical & Reformed Church, serving as an elder of the consistory, and of the Sunday school, a member of Logan lodge, F. & A.M. and the Altoona consistory, and of the Odd Fellows.
