All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ JOHN SUMMERS John Summers, one of the oldest colored men of this city and a former slave, died at 5 o'clock Saturday morning at the Altoona hospital from pneumonia. He was in his 92nd year, having been a resident of this city for the past fifty-six years. He came here from Virginia, where he had once been a slave. He has no known relatives. The remains were turned over to Undertakers Hickey & O'Neil to be prepared for burial. Summers had been employed for some time by Dr. McCarthy. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Mt. Zion A.M.E. church. Interment will follow in Fairview cemetery.
