All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ HUGH SWANGER, For many years driver of the Altoona fire engine, died of peritonitis at 11:05 o'clock last night, at his home, 121 Lexington avenue, aged 51 years, after an illness of one week. He is survived by his wife and two children, Harry and Mrs. Harry Selwitz. He was a member of the Chestnut Avenue Methodist church. He was also a member of Altoona lodge No. 473, I.O.O.F., and of the Grand Army. He was one of the youngest soldiers in the war, having entered the service at 18 years of age. He served two enlistments, first in the 125th regiment for 9 months, and then in the 12th Pennsylvania cavalry until the close of the war. Both these societies will attend his funeral, which promises to be a large one. It will leave the house at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon and go to the Chestnut Avenue Methodist church where services will be held; interment in Fairview cemetery.
