Taylor Is Buried Twenty-seven Hours Under Cars of Coal Elwood H. Taylor, a Pennsylvania brakeman residing at 319 Lexington avenue, was instantly killed at 4:30 o'clock Monday morning when four cars of an east-bound coal train went over the bank at GY tower, about a mile west of the Three Culverts. The body was buried under the wreckage and was not recovered until 7:15 o'clock yesterday morning. The train, hauled by engine No. 3213, in charge of Conductor C. L. Parker, was proceeding toward the city when one of the trucks under the car Taylor was riding suddenly broke down. The car, with the three following it buckled out of the train and rolled down over the steep bank on the right side of the track. The brakeman was caught and buried as the cars turned over and over and was caught under several hundred tons of coal. When the body was recovered at 7:15 yesterday morning it was found that the neck had been broken, skull fractured and one leg broken, death coming instantly. Elwood H. Taylor was born February 28, 1885, at Fowler, Centre county. He lived as a child and young man at Tyrone and came to this city eight years ago. He was a member of the P.R.R. relief but was not affiliated with any organizations. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Alice Taylor, of 319 Lexington avenue and the following brothers and sisters: Clair F., of Altoona; Lee A., of Pittsburg; Miss Vera R. Taylor, of this city, and Mrs. Hazel Oshell, also of Altoona. The funeral arrangement will be announced later. Altoona Tribune, Monday, March 3, 1919, page 1
