Taylor, living near Mary Ann Forge, Antis township, was stricken on Saturday evening with apoplexy and never regained consciousness until his death on Sunday evening, March 29, 1891. Mr. Taylor was born at Saltsburg, Indiana county, July 14, 1840. After the death of the mother the family removed in 1848 to Hollidaysburg. In 1861 Mr. Taylor went into the army as servant of Captain McLaughlin and later entered the service of his country by enlisting in company K Eighty-ninth U.S.C.T., January 17, 1864, and was first sergeant of his company. He was afterward transferred to company G, Ninety-third, U.S.C.T., which company was finally consolidated and became company G, Eighty-first U.S.C.T. and was finally discharged at New Orleans, La. After his discharge he was appointed to a clerkship in the United States custom house in New Orleans where he remained until 1878 when he returned to his native state and soon afterward settled at Mary Ann forge near which he has continued to reside until his death. In 1875 he was married to Louisa Philips, of New Orleans, who is left with eight children to mourn the loss of an affectionate and kind hearted husband and father. Mr. Taylor was highly respected by all who knew him and held in much esteem for the many excellent qualities manifested in all his actions. He was a member of Sanford F. Beyer post No. 426, Grand Army of the Republic, under whose auspices the funeral was conducted from his late residence at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Interment in Logan's Valley cemetery.
