Wallace Templeton, one of Tyrone's best known citizens and in the mercantile business there for more than sixty years, died yesterday afternoon at 2.15 o'clock at the Altoona hospital following an illness of one week, attributed to a complication of ailments. Mr. Templeton was a son of John Kyle and Clara (Wallace) Templeton and was born at Spruce Creek on Nov. 11, 1867. He was united in marriage with Annie J. Cree on March 19, 1895, in Tyrone, the late Rev. R. H. Gilbert, officiating. Surviving are his wife and three sisters, Mrs. C. B. Wingate of Tyrone, Mrs. J. A. Paulhamus of Lilly and Mrs. Edith Rice of Haverford. He was affiliated with the Presbyterian church since 1884, a former member of the board of trustees and a member of the building committee when the present edifice was erected. When but 14 years of age he entered the general store of Templeton & Crawford as a clerk and for sixty-three years was engaged in business in the same location. In 1907, the Templeton company was incorporated and A. Wallace Templeton became the head of the company, a post he filled up to the time of his death. Mr. Templeton was strictly a business man. Aside from his church and his business, he had no affiliations, but was a contributor to every worthy cause and was recently awarded a certificate of merit by the American Legion for his kindness twenty-five years ago when the Legion was first organized.
