A telegram was received in this city last evening announcing the death at Martinsburg yesterday of Miss Lenore Thatcher. The deceased was about 22 years of age and the daughter of Mr. John A. Thatcher, of Pueblo, Colo. She was spending the winter in the east and recently returned from a visit to Philadelphia, going to Martinsburg where she made her home with her grandmother, the widow of Mr. Henry Thatcher. Her illness was very sudden. She was in Altoona on Friday evening of the past week at the residence of Mr. George Piper, Twelfth street and Sixteenth avenue, Mrs. Piper and she being warm friends. She was then apparently in the best of health, and Mrs. Piper was greatly shocked last evening on receiving the telegram announcing the death. Miss Thatcher was a young lady who had a large circle of friends, and to these the intelligence of her death will come with crushing force. Spinal meningitis was the cause of death. We have not learned of the funeral arrangements. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, December 29, 1890
