Thompson, one of the most influential citizens of Sproul, died at the Nason hospital on Monday, January 13, of pneumonia, after an illness of only one week. Mr. Thompson had not been in the best of health for some months past but worked up until Friday evening, January 10, when he was taken seriously ill and continued to get worse until pneumonia developed, which finally proved fatal. Mr. Thompson was born near Hancock, Md., August 19, 1871, and was thus in the 48th year of his age. He lived in Hyndman and at different other places and five years ago came to Sproul, where he was continuously employed by the General Refractories company. He was united in marriage with Mrs. George Lehman, December 24, 1896. To this union were born two children, one son, Palmer, who preceded him to the grave a few years ago, and one daughter, Alzine, aged 12 years, who with the widow remain to mourn their loss. He is also survived by several brothers, who reside near Hyndman, and by the following stepchildren: Floyd Lehman, of Sproul; Orville Lehman, with the A.E.F. in France, and Mrs. F. F. Merreman, of Philipsburg. Short funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday morning, after which the cortege proceeded by train to Madley, Bedford county, where further services were held in the Lutheran church at that place by Rev. C. W. Skyles, of the Reformed church of Claysburg, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church. (Bedford papers please copy.)
