THOMPSON Died at his home on Juniata street Sunday evening at 7:40 o'clock after a long and painful illness from the dread malady, consumption. The deceased was the youngest son of John and Elizabeth Thompson, and was born in Hollidaysburg 58 years ago. He learned the trade of carpenter in his fathers shop, and pursued that employment up until recent years, when he entered the Pennsylvania railroad shops in Altoona. He saw three years' service in the civil war being a private in company A Eighty-fourth regiment. Later he belonged to the government construction corps in Tennessee. He was a charter member of the Phoenix Fire company, was a shortstop of the famous Juniata base ball club, and took an active part and interest in various social and public matters. He was allied with the Methodist Episcopal church and was a zealous worker in the Sunday school and other departments of the church. He was also a member of Hollidaysburg Lodge No. 119, Independent Order Odd Fellows, and Hollidaysburg assembly, Artisans' Order of Mutual Protection. The immediate survivors are his wife, Nettie, and one son McGraw, who is employed on the Northern Pacific railroad in North Dakota, and a daughter, Miss Mollie at home. Two brothers, W. F. of Hollidaysburg, and J. Edward of Harrisburg, and one sister, Mrs. Hezekiah King, of Altoona, also survive. [probably] Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., May 21, 1899 Contributor's Note: Thomas W. Thompson was married to Susan McGraw and was a brother to William Finley Thompson married to Mary Ann Brady, Mary Catherine Thompson married to Hezekiah King and James Edward Thompson married to Lizzie Winters.
