Tipton, Father of Youth Recently Drowned, Expires Suddenly of Heart Disease. David H. Tipton, a well known P.R.R. machinist, dropped dead of heart disease, at 11 o'clock last night, while tending the furnace at his home, 707 Nineteenth street. Mr. Tipton was the father of Vernon Tipton, the young Altoona athlete who was drowned at Vineyard just three months ago Tuesday, and, while apparently in good health, had never entirely recovered from the shock due to that accident. About 11 last night Mr. Tipton went to the cellar to fix the furnace for the night and, as he did not return in a few moments, his son, Arthur L., went to the head of the stairs to call to him. He heard a faint groan and, running down, found his father on the floor of the cellar, breathing faintly. A neighbor was called and he was carried to a couch, where he expired in a few moments. A physician, who was summoned pronounced death to be due to heart disease. The deceased was born at Fostoria December 12, 1855. He had been a resident of Altoona nearly all his life, and was the son of the late E. B. and Anna Tipton, his father being one of the first funeral directors in this city. David H. Tipton was employed as a machinist in the Twelfth street shops, and was widely known. He was affiliated with White Cross lodge, Knights of Pythias and was prominent in Pythias circles. He was on his way to the Knights of Pythias' state convention at the time he was notified of his son's drowning. Surviving are his wife, Clara V.; three children, Catherine, Margaret M., and Arthur L., all at home; one brother, L.C. Tipton, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. A.M. Miles, also of Altoona. Funeral services will be held at the house at 10 o'clock Monday morning, followed by interment in Fairview cemetery.
