Tipton It has been a long time since, if ever, that a member of this community departed this life so closely surrounded by the respect and affections of so large a circle of friends and acquaintances and whose death, which occurred at 12:05 a.m., Sunday, created a feeling of such regret and so profound a sorrow, one of the results of the expenditure of a long life of usefulness and charity to his fellow men. Allusion is made to Edward B. Tipton. Following is a synopsis of the most prominent events of his earthly career. Born in Antis township, Blair county, July 14, 1812. He was married to Miss Hannah Sneath, at Alexandria, Huntingdon county, June 18, 1835, who died November 23, 1890. Having previously learned the cabinet making trade he carried on the business at Philipsburg, Centre county, where he remained several years, when he returned to and lived on the John Bell farm, while working at the Forges. Removed to Elizabeth Furnace where he lived for nine years. He came to Altoona in the spring of 1862 and first worked in the glue room of the P.R.R. shops. Afterwards, 1869, commenced the furniture and undertaking business at Sixteenth street and Eleventh avenue. In 1873 moved to Eleventh avenue and Eleventh street, where he remained until the property was bought by the railroad company, when he built his undertaking rooms on Green avenue, residing at 808 Eleventh avenue where he died. For fifty years Mr. Tipton was a church member, the Baptist persuasion his choice, and during this long period of time evinced the true Christian spirit by "feeding the hungry and clothing the naked," thus obeying one of the leading injunctions of the Savior of the world. Mr. Tipton leaves four children. These are Mrs. A.M. Miles, of Milesburg, Centre county, L.C. Tipton, yardmaster in the employ of the company at BO office, David H. Tipton, an employe in the company shops, and Howard M. Tipton, residing at home. He also leaves three sisters - Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, of Iowa City, Iowa; Mrs. Emily Miller, of Fostoria, Blair county, and Mrs. Ruth Keyes, of Utahville, Clearfield county. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services will be held in the First Baptist Church. Interment in Fairview cemetery.
