Tipton, well known retired farmer, died at his home in Martinsburg Sunday morning at 11.15 o'clock, death following a brief illness. Mr. Tipton had been out looking after some stock he had retained after retiring from the farm and returned to the house about 10 o'clock, where he was taken ill and died without regaining consciousness. Mr. Tipton was a son of George and Susana Shoenfelt Tipton, and was born Aug. 31, 1858. He was married Nov. 15, 1883, to Ellen B. Stoner, who died March 8, 1924. One son, D. Merl Tipton, was killed in action in the World war, in the 80th division, 319th infantry in July, 1918. Surviving are two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Clinton H. Paul, 614 Fourteenth street, Altoona; Miss Mary E. Tipton, Albert H. and G. Ralph Tipton, at the home in Martinsburg; three grandchildren, Grace, Lois and Mary Paul; two brothers, John S. Tipton, Roaring Spring, and William S. Tipton, Martinsburg. He was a member of the Church of God and of the North Woodbury grange, No. 1923, Patrons of Husbandry. He was a member of Martinsburg council for several years. Funeral services will be held at the home, West Allegheny street, Martinsburg, at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, in charge of the Rev. E. F. Sipe, his pastor, assisted by Rev. O. M. Kraybill, pastor of the First Church of God, Altoona. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Martinsburg.
