TIPTON [photo] Martinsburg Farmer Dies William S. Tipton, 97, of Martinsburg RD 1, died at 12.15 a.m. yesterday at his home after an extended illness. He was born at Martinsburg RD Feb. 14, 1863, a son of George and Susana (Shoenfelt) Tipton, and on Aug. 23, 1888, at Martinsburg, was married to the former Annie F. Layman, who died May 11, 1932. Mr. Tipton was a retired farmer and spent his entire life in the Martinsburg RD area. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. Surviving are a son, Homer L. of Martinsburg; a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice E. Patterson, with whom he resided; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends are being received at the Miller Funeral Home, Martinsburg Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., February 29, 1960
