John Baptiste Tirone, an Italian laborer, employed by Stahl & Sons, railroad contractors, was struck by passenger train No. 3, near Elizabeth Furnace, between seven and eight o'clock this morning and instantly killed. He was brought to this city on an engine about 11 o'clock this morning, and taken to the rooms of Undertaker Arthur. Coroner Poet was notified, and empanelled a jury and held an inquest at 1 o'clock. Several who witnessed the accident were examined and from their testimony it was learned that the unfortunate man, not being aware of the approach of the passenger train had stepped from behind a freight car to the track directly in front of it. Verdict rendered was that the death was purely accidental. The deceased had about $75 on his person and leaves a wife and five children, who are still in Italy, from which place he came about three years ago. He will be buried tomorrow afternoon in St. John's cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Evening, March 7, 1893
