Updike died at the Blair county hospital on Sunday evening of a complication of diseases. He was the son of James and Jane Updike of Tyrone, and is survived by his wife and four children, James, Virginia, Robert and Elmer; by his parents, two brothers, Edward and Walter of Tyrone, and four sisters, Rose and Gertrude, at home, and Mrs. Charles Hiney of Tyrone and Mrs. B. J. Calderwood of Ironville. The funeral will take place on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the parental home at Tyrone and interment will be made at Franklinville. Friends may view the remains at any time at the home. He was a member of the United Brethren church and was born at Spruce Creek April 18, 1883. He was a son of James and Jane Updyke and was born at Spruce Creek, Pa., April 17, 1883. Practically all his life was spent in this vicinity. On Jan. 21, 1893, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Light who survives with four children, viz: James, Virginia, Robert and Eleanor. He also leaves his parents and these brothers and sisters: Walter and Edward of Tyrone, Mrs. Mollie Calderwood of Ironsville, Mrs. Charles Hiney of Plummers Hollow and Misses Gertrude and Rose, at home. Funeral will take place Thursday morning from the home of his mother at Plummers Hollow. Interment will be made at Franklinville. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, November 26, 1918
