All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ MARTHA JANE "MARCIE" VARNER Mrs. Martha Jane "Marcie" Fink Varner, 59, of 421 Grand Street, Middleburg, and a former Tyrone resident, died Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 9:05 p.m. at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, following a seven month battle with cancer. She was an inspiration to all through her fight. She was born December 2, 1943, a daughter of Mardell S. and J. Leslie Fink Jr., and on December 2, 1972 was married to Ralph A. Varner II who survives. Also surviving is her mother and twin daughters and their husbands - Rachel Varner Smith and husband Michael S. of Selinsgrove and Rebecca J. Geipel and husband Peter A. of Perkiomenville, one sister Cynthia Barber of Martinsburg, WV, one brother Dr. Joseph L. Fink III and his wife Maureen of Lexington, Ky., her mother-in-law Myrtle L. Varner of Bellwood, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law Herschel D and Nancy Varner of Roaring Spring and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and father-in-law Ralph A. Varner. Mrs. Varner was a 1961 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and attended Lock Haven State College. Earlier in her life, she had been employed with her father at Fink Drugs, Tyrone and for the past 16 years she was passionately involved with her work at children's Discovery Center, Middleburg, a day care center for children. Mrs. Varner was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg, where she formerly served as trustee, Sunday School teacher, was active in the Ladies Aid and was serving on the Pastor- Parish Relations Committee. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Tyrone. She was an avid supporter of the basketball programs that her husband coached. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and her focus was her family, home and church. At Marcie's request, there will be no viewing. The family will receive friends and relatives for a time of visitation and fellowship from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Middleburg, where a memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by her pastor, the Rev. James W. Grubb. There will be an additional memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christ United Methodist Church, Tyrone, with Rev. Charles Swenson officiating. Committal will be private. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Cancer Care of Central Pennsylvania, 2 East 18th Street, Selinsgrove, Pa. 17870 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 51 South Main Street, Middleburg, Pa. 17842.
