Thursday morning an accident occurred on the railroad near Allegrippus which resulted in the death of Anton Vilden, a German tramp. At the time of the accident Vilden was traveling toward the city on the south track and was struck by an engine which was coming down the mountain. The engine was in charge of Engineer Westfall, by whom ample warning was given. The engine was stopped and the injured man brought to this city and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Here an examination of his injuries showed that a large hole had been knocked in his head from which the brain oozed, his left arm was ground off at the shoulder, his left leg was broken and the cap of his right knee was nearly cut off. He died from the effect of his injuries at ten minutes of 4 o'clock. Nothing could be learned of his life. Coroner Glenn was notified of the death and went to the hospital and impannelled the following jury: D. K. Howe, foreman; J. P. Stern, William Bennett, J. B. Mayor, E. W. Ford and J. A. Arthur. After viewing the remains the jury adjourned. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, March 28, 1889
