The Deceased a Resident of Tyrone for the Past Thirty Years. Michael Vogt, one of Tyrone's earliest and best known residents, after a lingering illness from consumption, passed peacefully away at 5 o'clock Sunday morning, at his home on Washington avenue. Mr. Vogt had been in declining health for the past two years his ailments gradually developing into the dread disease which finally summoned him beyond. The subject of this sketch was among the first of the sturdy German settlers who have formed a considerable share of the progressive citizenship of Tyrone. He was born in Koenigsbach, Bavaria, Germany, Sept. 11, 1839, and his age at death was therefore 54 years, 4 months and 3 days. When he came to America in 1863 he located at Cincinnati, Ohio, but in February, 1864, he removed to Tyrone where he had ever since resided. He was a stone mason by trade, and excepting the time given to his hotel business, most of his life was successfully engaged at that trade. From 1869 to 1879 he was engaged in the hotel business, being at different times proprietor of the Keystone hotel and Pennsylvania House. In 1865 he was married to Amanda Palmer, and he is survived by his wife and five sons, William C., Frederick C., John A., Carl H., and G. Louis. One brother and two sisters in Germany and a sister in Cincinnati also survive him. He was a member of the Catholic church and died with the blessings of that faith, to which he had adhered from youth. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Matthew's chapel. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., January 18, 1894
