Died at His Home on West Washington Avenue Tuesday Evening. Abraham Waite died at his home, 732 West Washington avenue, at 8.15 o'clock Tuesday. He had been a sufferer the past two years from the effects of two severe attacks of la grippe, but the immediate cause of death was nervous prostration, from which he had suffered the past six weeks. He was aged 77 years, 9 months and 2 days. Deceased was a native of Sinking Valley. He was born on the old Waite homestead below Arch Spring, now occupied by George W. Bridenbaugh, where he was reared to manhood. Most of his life was spent in Sinking Valley, but he had resided at Spruce Creek some years before coming to Tyrone in the year 1889. His lifelong occupation was that of a farmer until coming here, when he retired from active life. He was one of four sons of John and Esther Waite, all of whom, together with the parents, are dead. He had three sisters who are also deceased. Abraham Waite was a man of retired disposition, yet he was a substantial citizen and in the years of his vigor made himself useful in the community where he lived. He was frugal in the temporal affairs of life and acquired a competency for use in his declining years. In spiritual things he was a Methodist, being a member of the Tyrone First church at death, and lived a life consistent with his earnest religious professions. In business affairs he was honorable and had many friends. He was never married, but sustained a home of his own, Miss Maggie Fleck being his competent and faithful housekeeper for many more than a score of years. The funeral will be held today. Services at the late home of deceased by Rev. J. A. Wood, Jr., at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Interment at Tyrone cemetery. The Tyrone Herald, Tyrone, Pa., Thursday, August 16, 1900, p. 1, col. 4
