(Dick) Waite, of Bald Eagle, died Thursday at 8:55 a.m. in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Altoona, after an extended illness. He was born in Tyrone on June 10, 1899, a son of Earl B. and Cora Saltsman Waite. On Oct. 14, 1926, he was united in marriage with Jennie Miller in a ceremony performed by the Rev. Joseph Speer, in First Presbyterian Church here. He was a lifelong resident of Tyrone. Surviving is the widow, and a sister, Miss Inez Waite, Bald Eagle. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Lodge 212 of Elks where he had been serving as a trustee; of the Howard Gardner Post 281, American Legion; the Anderson-Denny Post 4559 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Retired Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association and the Clubmen's Association. He enlisted in Troop B, Pennsylvania National Guard in 1918 and served in World War I. He commanded Troop B for 12 years and was its commander in 1941 when it was ordered into federal service. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre. In 1946, he was placed on reserve status and operated Waite's Cut Rate Drug Store, Columbia avenue. Recalled to active duty in May of 1950, he served during the Korean conflict as commander of the Miho, Japan Air Base. Recalled to the U.S. in 1955, he served at the Air Force Finance Center, Denver, Colo., until his retirement on Oct. 31, 1959, as a Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Air Force. Funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Graham & Getz Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Richard K. Giffen. Burial will be in Blair Memorial Park with full military honors. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., January 2, 1965, page 3
