Walk, age 84, of 212 E. 12th Street, Apt. 108, Tyrone, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born February 9, 1921 in Tyrone, the son of Paul R. and Flora May Markle Walk. On August 24, 1946 in Washington, DC he was married to Dora B. McFalls who preceded him in death August 29, 2002. He is survived by two sons: Raymond Walk of Tyrone and Michael Walk and wife Mary of Akron; two daughters: Connie Shaffer and Denise, wife of Jerry Crispell, both of Tyrone; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Donna Glasgow, of Bellwood and Janet Harpster of Altoona and two brothers: Warren Walk of Julian and Charles Walk of CT. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Mr. Walk had been a self-employed painter, retiring in 1996. He was a veteran of service with the U.S. Army in World War II, had been a POW captured in the Battle of the Bulge on December 19, 1944 and liberated on April 3, 1945. He was discharged as a Corporal from Company F Academic Regiment Infantry School. He was a graduate of Tyrone High School, class of 1940. He was a life member of Anderson Denny Post No. 4559 VFW; Howard Gardner Post No. 281 American Legion; the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and a former member of Moose Lodge No. 25. A funeral service with flag presentation will be held Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. Officiating will be Father Vance Clark, Rector Emeritus of Trinity Episcopal Church and Reverend Jeanne Jacobson, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church. Private interment will be made at the convenience of the family in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until 3 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, Pennsylvania Avenue and 10th Street, Tyrone, PA 16686 or to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16601.
