WALKER, NONOGENARIAN, PASSES AWAY Tyrone Loses Oldest Resident, Who Had Attained Age of 94 Years LIVED LONG TIME IN ALEXANDRIA August 21, 1918, records the death of the oldest resident of Tyrone at that time. The subject of this obituary is Mrs. Mary Anna Walker, and her death occurred in the afternoon at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Fisher. Mrs. Walker was born July 3, 1824, at Alexandria and hence was over 94 years old at her death. While in impaired health for some time, she was able to be up and about the house for at least a period of each day. The first seventy years of her life were spent in the town of her birth, where she was well known and highly respected. Twenty-four years ago she removed to Tyrone, and has since that time made her home with her daughters, Mrs. J. W. Fisher and Mrs. J. H. Harklerode. On the 24th of December, 1851, she was married to Thomas D. Walker, who died in 1894. Besides the two daughters aforesaid mentioned she has a progeny of five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Also one brother, Philip H. Piper, of Alexandria, is living of her family. Throughout all her life she was a communicant of the Presbyterian church, and was active in all departments of church work until her declining health forbade her activities. The funeral will be held at Alexandria on Friday afternoon, and the interment will be at that place. Altoona Tribune, Thursday morning, August 22, 1918, page 2
