Walker, 79, of RD5 Tyrone died Saturday evening at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. Born in Altoona, a son of the late John C. and Leah E. (Dukeman) Walker. On October 21, 1949 he married Thelma B. Weierick at Grace Brethren Church, Juniata. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 56 years; daughters: Linda J. Berry and husband Gary of Champaign, Il., Patricia A. Keller and husband Terry of Hummelstown and Sandra K. Seiber and husband Del of Champaign, Il.; a son: William R. and wife, Stacey of RD5 Tyrone; grandchildren: Amy, Andrea, Elizabeth, Megan, Laurie, Robert, Brandon and Taylor; brothers: John A. of Pleasant Gap and Jack E. of Duncansville; sisters: Sally L. Hippensteel of Apopka, Fl. and Janet A. Capper of Corry. He was preceded in death by brother, Charles R. and sister, Florence Kisseli. Mr. Walker was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He was a graduate of Penn State University with a BS Degree in agricultural education. He also earned a Masters Degree and a Doctorate Degree of Education at Penn State. Mr. Walker was an Army Air Force veteran serving during World War II. He was formerly employed as an agriculture teacher at Hollidaysburg School District for 16 years. Mr. Walker also conducted research in adult education for the Altoona Vo-Tech. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Maryland, College Park. He retired as a professor and teacher educator at the University of Illinois. Mr. Walker retired in March 1989 as a Field Consultant for the PA Dept. of Education. He was co-owner of Walker Tree Farm, Antis Township, along with his son, William, where he was involved with growing Christmas trees on the family farm. He was serving as a supervisor for Antis Township where he had also served as Board Chairman. Mr. Walker served as a judge at FFA demonstrations at the PA Farm Show. He was Chairman of the Board, Blair Senior Service, A member of the Bellwood-Antis Public Library Board of Directors, the Bell Mansion Apartment Board of Directors, the Blair County Solid Waste Authority, the Blair County Solid Waste Advisory Committee and the Bellwood-Antis Community Trust. He was a member of the PA Christmas Tree Growers Assoc., a life member of the Penn State Alumni Assoc. and PA State Education Assoc. Mr. Walker was a member of the Tipton Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. He enjoyed riding his ATV on farm roads and wood trails, hunting, fishing in farm ponds and traveling with his wife, Thelma, to visit his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed digital photography, communicating via email with family and friends, woodworking and farm shop activities. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 8 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Tipton Baptist Church with Pastor John Pine officiating. Interment at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
