He was born in Jennings county, Ind., Feb. 16, 1880, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Waughtel. He was a member of the Garden Heights Evangelical United Brethren church. He served as a blacksmith with troop G, 2nd regiment of cavalry, during the Spanish-American war, for four years, two of them in Cuba. He was a member of Dewey camp, United Spanish War Veterans, and was a blacksmith by trade. For the past 20 years he had been employed by the Shaffer Stores company in the garage. He was married 46 years ago to the former Miss Mary Virginia Ertler, who survives with one daughter, Miss Ora Virginia, at home, and one brother, Rome, in Orting, Wash.
