The boy was knocked down, the rear wheels of the truck crushing his head. The driver, evidently unaware that his truck had passed over the child, did not stop. A witness to the tragedy told Coroner Chester C. Rothrock and state and local police officers that the child was not, at any time, within range of the truck's lights. Coroner Rothrock said that an investigation is being conducted today in conjunction with state motor police and, upon learning all the facts, he will decide on an inquest. The child was picked up by a passing motorist and taken to the Nason hospital at Roaring Spring where he was pronounced dead. The boy had been at the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Hoover, and was on the way to the home on South Market street, with the grandmother, who was leading the child. On the opposite side of the street, near the Dilling store, the child broke away and ran into the street, hitting the side of the truck before the grandmother could overtake him. Earl Raymond Weaver, jr., was born in Martinsburg on Dec. 18, 1938, a son of Earl Raymond and Phoebe (Hoover) Weaver, who survive, with one brother and one sister, Robert Anthony and Lois Naomi, both at home. Friends are being received at the home on South Market street. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., October 25, 1942 This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/
