Downey, died early this morning in her home on South Main Street after a six month illness. She had resided in Punxsutawney the past 60 years. Mrs. Downey was a native of Hollidaysburg, where she was born March 11, 1860, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Weaver. She was a member of the SS. Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are four daughters and a son: Mrs. Mary Covatch, of Creekside; Mrs. Ellen Barnett, Mrs. Catherine Mitchell and Leo Downey of this city, and Mrs. Angelo Gigliotti of Ellwood City. Ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two half-sisters, Mrs. Flora Hamilton and Mrs. Margaret Suckling, of Hollidaysburg, also survive. Friends will be received in the Morrison Funeral Home after 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Requiem mass will be offered at 9 o'clock Monday morning in SS.C.D. Her husband, Harry E. Hamilton, preceded her in death. MARY MARKS Widow of John Marks, died suddenly at 5:30 yesterday afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harry Carnell, of 312 Blair Street, Hollidaysburg, of acute indigestion. She had been ill for the past month but her condition was not regarded as being serious. She was born in Hollidaysburg on May 10, 1865, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Weaver. Surviving are two daughters and one stepson, Mrs. Margaret Culbertson and Mrs. Carnell of Hollidaysburg, and Jacob Marks of Windber; one brother and one sister, Morris Weaver of Portage and Barbara Downey of Punxsutawney. Mrs. Marks was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Hollidaysburg where requiem mass will be held at 9:00 Saturday morning. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery. MURPHY Of 807 4th Ave., Lakemont, died at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 1979, in Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after an extended illness. She was born July 2, 1901, in Hollidaysburg, the daughter of William and Mary (Bourdous) Weaver, and March 25, 1919, in Cumberland, Md., married Fred E. Murphy, who died Sept. 7, 1949. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clara Fagans and Mrs. Almira Wilt of Lakemont; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three brothers, Elmer and Andrew of Hollidaysburg and John of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the Lakemont Methodist Church for more than 50 years and a member of Mrs. Reed's Sunday School class. She was a member of the auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Lakemont. Known as A.B., Mr. Weaver retired as a car repairman from the Samuel Rea Shops, Hollidaysburg, of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1981, after 31 years service. He was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Hollidaysburg, the son of William and Mary Ann (Bourdess) Weaver, and on July 21, 1946, in Hollidaysburg, married Kathleen Rhodes. MORRIS WEAVER, PORTAGE, DIES HERE Mrs. Anna (Smith) Weaver, wife of Morris Weaver of Portage, died at 9:50 o'clock this morning at Memorial Hospital. She was 64 years of age. Mrs. Weaver was admitted to the hospital July 17 and underwent an operation the following day. She is survived by her husband and four children. The body has been turned over to H.F. BARBARA WEAVER Aged 92, widow of Morris Weaver, died at her home, 203 Franklin street, Hollidaysburg, at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon of ailments incident to her advanced years after having been bedfast for the past three weeks. Despite her years, Mrs. Weaver was quite active, taking a great interest in current affairs. She was one of the leaders in the fight for woman suffrage and had voted in every election since women won the privilege of voting until Tuesday of this week when her illness prevented. She was born at Williamsburg on Dec. 4, 1842, a daughter of Samuel and Susan Rhodes. Surviving are two daughters and three sons, Mrs. W.T. Suckling, William, George and Raymond Weaver and Mrs. H.C. Hamilton, all of Hollidaysburg; two step-children, Mrs. Barbara Bowney of Punxsutawney and Morris Weaver of Portage; twenty five grandchildren, thirty eight great- grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Susan Mitchell of Latrobe. WEAVER James L. Weaver, 85, of Akron, died Thursday evening, Aug. 14, 1986. Mr. Weaver was born in Summerhill, Pa., and has been an area resident since 1928. He was formerly employed at the People's Dairy Co., where he was vice- president of the Milk Driver's Union. For 20 years he was employed as a plaster contractor, retiring in 1963. Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, on Aug. 16, 1956. Altoona Mirror, March 6, 1972 ________ MORRIS WEAVER Died at his home in Gaysport at 11 o'clock yesterday morning, of pneumonia. He was born in Germany in March 1833, and had been a resident of Hollidaysburg since 1856. He served as a private in Company E 84th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was married twice, and his second wife with eight children survive him. Altoona Mirror, Dec 21, 1893 ________ MORRIS WEAVER, 74, PORTAGE, SUCCUMBS, ILL FOR TWO MONTHS PORTAGE -- Morris Weaver, 74, of Wayne Avenue died this morning in Memorial Hospital in Johnstown after an illness of two months. He had been a patient at the Johnstown institution since January 9. The deceased was a son of Morris and Barbara (Miller) Weaver, both deceased, and had been a resident of Portage for the past 30 years. He was employed as a janitor at the Portage Township schools for the past 12 years. Surviving are these children: Merle Weaver, Ridgway; Mrs. Clyde Troxell, Portage, with whom he lived; Mrs. Mary Dunwiddie, Pittsburgh, and Leo Weaver, Akron, O. Also surviving are four grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Barbara Downey, Punxsutawney. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in the cemetery at Frankstown, Blair County, under the direction of the Beck Funeral Home of Portage. Johnstown Tribune, Feb. 5, 1942 ________ MRS. GEORGE (GORMAN) WEAVER Tuesday night of last week, Mrs. George Weaver died at the home of her father M.G. Gorman, in Gaysport, her death resulting from a complication of diseases. Weaver, adopted son of the late Mrs. Barbara Weaver of Hollidaysburg, was found dead in his bed at 11:30 o'clock last night at the home his brother- in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Hamilton of 203 Franklin street, Hollidaysburg. He had been in ill health for some time. He was born in Hollidaysburg, July 11, 1897. Surviving are the following brothers and sisters: George and William Weaver, Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Walter Suckling, all of Hollidaysburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home. Interment will be made in Alto-Reste cemetery. Archie Claar Obituary Collection, hand-dated Nov 4, 1936 ________ BRONZE STAR HOLDER DIES Vincent E. Weaver, 50, of Frankstown died unexpectedly in his home at 3:40 p.m. Saturday. A veteran of World War II Army service in the 9th Armored Division, he won the Bronze Star medal in Europe. Mr. Weaver was born in Frankstown, Jan. 30, 1918, a son of Joseph K. and Della Mae (Bailey) Weaver. Surviving are a brother and five sisters, George of Hollidaysburg, Miss Lavada at home; Mrs. Gladys Summers of Lakemont, Mrs. Stella Walls of Johnstown, Mrs. Eleanor Hayes of State College and Mrs. Janet Ensley of Los Alimitos, Calif. Mr. Weaver was a member of the Frankstown Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg American Legion, Duncansville VFW and Hollidaysburg Sportsmen's Association. He was employed as a car repairman in the Samuel Rea shop, Hollidaysburg. Friends will be received in the Haller Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg until 10 p.m. today. Altoona Mirror, April 6, 1968 ________ WILLIAM H. WEAVER Of Hollidaysburg, RD 1, died at the home of a son, Andrew Weaver, of Loop Station, at 4:40 yesterday afternoon after a lengthy illness. He was born in Hollidaysburg January 13, 1873, the son of Maurice and Barbara Rhodes Weaver, and married Mary A. Bouress in 1900 in Cumberland, Maryland. Surviving are two daughters and five sons; Mrs. Clara Murphy of Lakemont, Mrs. Mary S. Boggs, and John of Pitcairn, James L. of Jamestown, Elmer of Hollidaysburg, Melvin and Andrew of Loop Station; and a sister, Mrs. Walter Suckling of Hollidaysburg. He was of the Lutheran faith. WEAVER, CRESSON, SUCCUMBS William Merle Weaver, 68, of 1501 West Second Street, Cresson, died at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct., 3 1959, in Altoona Veterans Hospital. Born Jan. 2, 1891, in Glen White, he was a son of Morris and Annie (Smith) Weaver. Mr. Weaver, a Navy veteran of World War I, was a member of Summit Lodge 312, F & AM, Ebensburg; Williamsport Consistory and Scottish Rite, Williamsport; Syria Mosque Shrine, Pittsburgh, and Cresson American Legion Post 238. Surviving are his widow, the former Lillian Readman of Beaverdale, whom he married Oct. 28, 1922, in Hollidaysburg; a brother Leo Weaver, of Akron O.; and two sisters, Mrs. Walter Dunwiddie of Cresson, and Mrs. Clyde Troxell, Portage. Funeral service was held Tuesday in the Newton Funeral Home, Cresson. Rev. P.A. Alfieri, Methodist minister, officiated. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown. WHITE, wife of Robert White, died on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at her home, 115 Basin Street, Gaysport, of pneumonia, after an illness of one week's duration. She was a daughter of Morris, deceased, and Barbara Weaver of Hollidaysburg and was born in Hollidaysburg December 16, 1882. She was a highly esteemed Christian woman and a consistent member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by seven children: George, Catherine, Barbara, Russell, Joseph, Eunice and Robert all at home. Also by two sisters: Mrs. Walter Suckling and Mrs. Harry Hamilton, both of Hollidaysburg; also by two half-sisters: Mrs. Mary Marks of Hollidaysburg and Mrs. John Downing of Punxsutawney and a half-brother Morris of Portage.
