At 11.30 o'clock Saturday morning Wolfgang Weest, a well known resident of the Eighth ward and proprietor of the Grand hotel, at Sixth avenue and Third street, died of a complication of diseases after an illness of a year's duration. Deceased was born in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany, August 10, 1828. In 1848 he came to America and settled in Hollidaysburg, and six years later he accepted a position in the shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad company. A few years later he engaged in huckstering, which he followed for several years, and then engaged in the butchering business. In 1893 he became proprietor of the Grand hotel where he has resided ever since. He was a veteran of the civil war, having served in company D, Forty-fifth regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. He was a member of St. James Lutheran church, post 468, Grand Army of the Republic, and Altoona lodge of Odd Fellows. He was a man who had a host of friends and was highly esteemed by all. Mr. Weest was married in 1854 to Anna Mary Hoefler, who survives him, with these children: John, Harry W., Anna M., William and Mary E., all of this city. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from the Grand hotel. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Morning Tribune, Monday, February 19, 1900 CONCERNING FUNERALS. The funeral of Wolfgang Weest, which took place yesterday afternoon was very largely attended, and a large concourse of the friends of the deceased followed the body to Oak Ridge cemetery, where the interment was made.
