He had been a great sufferer during the two years of his illness, but bore the pain with resignation and patience. About one year ago his right limb was paralyzed and he never regained the full use of it, and for a week or more he had suffered from dropsy, so that while his death was sudden it was looked for by the members of his family. Mr. Weiss was born in Castle, Germany, September 29, 1835, and consequently was in his fifty-eighth year. At the age of twelve he emigrated with his mother to this country and settled in Hollidaysburg, where he learned the trade of a baker and confectioner with a Mr. Lewis, of that place. He removed to Altoona in 1858, and was married to Miss Mary F. Beale, of this city, July 25, 1861. About 1869, his store was burned out and in consequence he removed to Kansas, where he remained for four years and then returned to Altoona, remaining here to the present time. He conducted a bakery and confectionery store on Eleventh avenue for a number of years, afterwards removing to the east side. Deceased is survived by his wife and seven sons, there being but one daughter, who died in infancy. The boys are: Henry B., Earnest H., Gilbert H., Maurice E., and Frank A., of this place; Charles T., of Buffalo, N.Y., and J. Gemmill, of Springfield, Mo. His only other living relative is a sister, Mrs. Martha Holtzworth, living at Oil City. He was a member of the First Methodist church, also of Altoona Lodge, 473, I.O.O.F., Alto Lodge, 295, K. of P. and Hancock Castle, 124, K. of M. O., all of which will attend the funeral, which will take place at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon next. Interment in Fairview cemetery. This closes the life of another of the pioneer residents of our city. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Friday Evening, March 3, 1893
