Werft [photo] Brief Illness is Fatal for Works Veteran August Otto Werft, 81, of 1312 20th Ave., retired employe of the Pennsylvania Railroad Altoona Works, died at his home at 2.45 a.m. today after a short illness. He and Mrs. Werft marked their 58th wedding anniversary on June 20 of this year. Mr. Werft was born in Breslau, Germany, Jan. 11, 1877, a son of Rudolph and Ernstine (Albright) Werft, and entered the service of the railroad company Sept. 1, 1899. He retired as a bolt maker in the Juniata shops April 13, 1941. Mrs. Werft is the former Electa Hoover of Woodbury. Mr. and Mrs. Werft, since his retirement, had spent the winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of the Independent Evangelical Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, seven children, Ellis L. of Allentown, Mrs. Martha E. Hart of Camden, N.J., Stanley Q. of Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Pauline Stoner and Mrs. Elmer Bradley of the city, August R. of Uniontown and Harold H. of Pitcairn; 10 grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren and one brother, Charles O. of St. Petersburg, Fla.
