Wertz, one of Frankstown township's oldest and most highly respected citizens and retired farmers, died at his home in the Loop at 6.19 p.m. on Saturday, of the infirmities of old age, aged 81 years, 10 months and 5 days. Mr. Wertz was born in this county and spent his entire life here. He always took an active part in the township affairs and served on the school board for a period of sixteen years and was also tax collector for a number of years. He offered his services to the government at the outbreak of the Civil War but was rejected on account of some physical infirmity. His beautiful Christian character is worthy of emulation and is a source of much solace to his children. He was married to Mary Mountain, deceased, on Sept 14, 1856, to which union fourteen children were born, twelve of whom are living as follows: Mrs. Margaretta Stoner and Mrs. Laura Hawksworth of Altoona; C. B. Wertz of Canan Station; Charles E. of East Altoona; Mrs. Maud Keller, Mrs. Blanche Lawfer and J. W. of Duncansville; D. M. of the west; Mrs. Bertha Miller, of Hilltop; Boyden A., of South Altoona; Maxwell who resides on the homestead farm, and Miss Eva Violet, of the East End, Hollidaysburg. Mr. Wertz was for many years a member of Zion Lutheran church, Hollidaysburg, and one of its pillars. The funeral services will be held at his late home tomorrow afternoon at 2.30; interment in Fairmount cemetery, at Geeseytown.
