Wertz of 1132 Fourth Avenue, Duncansville, who was listed on the retirement roll of the Pennsylvania Railroad company nearly two years ago, succumbed to a heart attack yesterday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Bertha Miller of Third Avenue, that borough, less than an hour after being stricken. He suffered a minor attack late in the forenoon after over-exertion from shovelling snow but appeared to have recovered and as he had often done, he ate lunch at his sister's home. The fatal attack came some time after he finished eating. Death ensued despite the quick arrival of a physician. His wife and several members of the immediate family were at his bedside. After a record of thirty-six years of service with the Pennsylvania railroad in the Juniata blacksmith shop, Mr. Wertz retired nearly two years ago on the eve of his sixty-fifth birthday. He was a leading member of Duncansville Presbyterian church, being a ruling elder and for many years served as the superintendent of the Sunday school. Since his retirement he served faithfully on numerous occasions as the official representative of the Duncansville congregation at the Huntingdon presbytery meetings. He was deeply interested and frequently active in community affairs and was especially interested in the Duncansville Parent/Teacher association. He at one time served a short term on the town council. His fraternal affiliations included membership in Portage lodge, No. 220, Free and Accepted Masons of Hollidaysburg. Julius Weil Wertz was born on Oct. 29, 1873, at West Loop, Frankstown township, this county, and was a son of Jacob and Mary Wertz. On July 20, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Annie Gibson, also of Frankstown township, the late Isaac Krider, D.D., then the Lutheran minister at Geeseytown and Duncansville, performing the ceremony.
