Wertz, Aged 77, Retired Pennsy Man Residing at 414 Walnut Avenue, Is Stricken on Train. Sufering a sudden heart attack while riding on train No. 2, between Pittsburgh and East Liberty about 8:40 o'clock this morning, Martin L. Wertz, aged 77, of 414 Walnut avenue, was dead when removed from the train at East Liberty. Mr. Wertz was returning to Altoona after having visited since last Friday with two sons, Andrew and Samuel Wertz, in Detroit, Mich. Just a few minutes before the fatal attack he had been laughing and talking with G. L. Pyle of Swissvale, conductor of the train. His condition was discovered when he was seen to collapse in his seat. Mr. Wertz was a veteran of the Pennsylvania Railroad company service in the Altoona works, having retired about ten years ago from the lumber yard at the car shops after a long period of employment. He had not been in ill health. He was born in Hollidaysburg on Feb. 13, 1857, but had resided for many years in Altoona. His wife, Mrs. Jennie (Fonner) Wertz, died seven years ago. Surviving are seven sons and one daughter, Edward Wertz of St. Paul, Minn., Orville, James, John L., Theodore and Mrs. Susan Dunn, all at home, Samuel and Andrew Wertz of Detroit. Mr. Wertz was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. The body will be brought to the city and taken to the Leslie Axe funeral home, 413 Howard avenue. Wertz of 414 Walnut avenue will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Axe funeral home, where the body may be viewed. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.
