All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ PHILIP MARTIN WERTZ Of 101 Eighth avenue, Juniata, a well know retired farmer and a Civil war veteran, died Saturday night at 9 o'clock at his home, death being due to a complication of diseases, incident to advanced years. Deceased was born near Hollidaysburg Oct. 8, 1843, a son of Solomon and Mary Wertz, and had been a resident of Juniata for the past twelve years. His wife preceded him to the grave twenty-three years ago. Mr. Wertz served in many of the major battles of the Civil war. He enlisted at Harrisburg Aug. 14, 1862, in Company I, 137th Pennsylvania volunteers. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. John Bream of Biglersville, Pa.; Misses Verna and Salome at home; Mrs. H. H. Edgely of Altoona; Mrs. C. R. Isenberg of Detroit; S. M. of Colorado Springs, and two grandchildren. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary McCune of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Julia Hileman of Hollidaysburg; Calvin of Altoona; F. F. of Iowa; Mrs. Ida Tippery and Miss Lula Wertz of Altoona. He was a member of the Geeseytown Lutheran church. The body may be viewed at the home Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock and 7:30 to 9. Wertz of 101 Eighth avenue, Juniata, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home, the cortege going to the Hollidaysburg Lutheran church, where services will be conduced at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Chester S. Simonton, pastor of Juniata Trinity Lutheran church, will have charge of the obsequies. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
